Dundee can get the better of Inverness in Saturday's Ladbrokes Championship clash at Dens Park.

James McPake's side were an injury-time goal away from knocking Aberdeen out of the Betfred Cup last week and they outplayed the Dons for much of the game, before tiring in extra-time.

Confidence is building at the Dark Blues after last season's pitiful efforts that resulted in relegation.

McPake this week recruited his highly-rated namesake Josh McPake from Rangers and the youngster should add to a Dundee team who were already improved by the signing of striker Kane Hemmings. With Andrew Nelson only making a spot on the bench last week, they have plenty of attacking options.

No team drew as many games as Caley Thistle last season, but they have downsized this term and don't look as strong.

They have already been to Dens Park in the Betfred Cup a few weeks ago and lost 1-0 to a Dundee side who were short in confidence. Dundee have undoubtedly improved since and the hosts look a solid bet.

In the same division, Ayr United should have too much for Queen of the South at Somerset Park.

Both sides have enjoyed a two-week break after they were eliminated from the Betfred Cup, but United probably went into the break happier.

With veteran Michael Moffat looking as good as ever and Alan Forrest - brother of Celtic and Scotland star James - in the mood again, Ayr should score plenty at home this season.

Queen of the South might be able to welcome back talisman Stephen Dobbie, who has been out with a hamstring injury, but Ayr have netted eight goals in their three home games this season and can outscore the Dumfries outfit.

Albion Rovers can put the boot into Brechin City, who this week axed manager Barry Smith after a miserable start to the season.

The Glebe Park club, who have been relegated two seasons in a row, are heading for an unwanted treble, having not won for their last 15 games, including the end of last season.

Rovers have showed they can score plenty already this season, although they need to tighten up at the back. But they should get plenty of chances at Cliftonhill against the struggling Angus outfit.
