National League Saturday preview

Maidenhead are in a serious dogfight to retain their National League status after dropping into the bottom four, and they could be in for further hardship when they host Stockport.

The Magpies have lost their last four matches, including a home defeat to fellow strugglers Ebbsfleet, and have had a tough time at York Road this season. They have the second-worst home record and have lost 11 times on their patch.

Stockport find themselves on the cusp of the playoff places despite winning only two of their last ten games, but that doesn’t tell the whole story as they are also unbeaten in their last five.

Jim Gannon’s side secured a battling point against Barnet in midweek and have shown good form on the road with only two defeats in their last 11.

All things considered, Stockport should have the quality to collect the three points and add to Maidenhead’s worries.

Notts County have been in hot form and look good to secure another victory when they host Eastleigh.

The Magpies team are up to third after beating Aldershot 3-1 in midweek, and they impressed when winning 2-0 at table-toppers Barrow last Saturday to make it eight victories in their last 13 games.

They have lost just twice at Meadow Lane this season, the fewest home defeats in the National League, and won six of their last eight in all competitions.

Eastleigh are now five points clear of the relegation zone but haven’t been in the best shape, winning just two of their last 11.

Ben Strevens’ side have picked up just five points from their last eight away matches and could draw another blank at Notts County.

Chesterfield climbed out of the relegation zone last week and they could be worth backing to pull further clear when they visit Dover.

The Spireites have won five of their last eight matches and have been superb attacking form, scoring 12 times in their last four matches.

That is certain to concern Dover manager Andy Hessenthaler, who has seen his team draw a blank in three of their last four matches.
