Bologna have suffered successive demoralising defeats and a tough trip to Genoa to face steadily improving Sampdoria could turn their week from bad to worse.

The Red & Blues were hit for seven in a romp by Napoli last weekend before their midweek game in hand proved to be a disaster as they lost 1-0 at home to nine-man Milan.

Roberto Donadoni’s men dominated the latter stages of their tussle with Milan but a quick counter undid all their hard work and he may face a tough test to raise the spirits of his camp.

The hosts are difficult to assess and they are stuggling to emulate the form which saw them qualify for the Europa League two years ago. However, Marco Giampaolo’s men are hitting form at the right time and they should relish the visit of Bologna.

Sampdoria displayed their character with a come-from-behind 3-2 success against Roma last weekend, which was followed by a hard-fought 1-0 win at Milan, suggesting Giampaolo is finally getting a tune from his talented bunch.

Samp’s revival has been largely produced at their Genoan base and they have lost just twice on their own patch this season.

Wins over Inter, Atalanta and rivals Genoa show their love for Stadio Luigi Ferraris and it’s unlikely the visitors, who have won just two of their last 18 away matches, can dent their imposing record.

Bologna have been unsuccessful on their last ten trips to Samp and, with their confidence diminished, that run should continue.
