Stephen Kenny waited a long time to chalk up his first competitive win as Ireland boss and he can make it a quickfire double in Dublin against 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar.

It was 13th time lucky for Kenny in Azerbaijan on Saturday, when the Irish produced a well-deserved 3-0 win thanks to Callum Robinson's first-half double.

And while there are no points up for grabs against Qatar, Kenny and his team will want to maintain their positive frame of mind.

They should be good enough to see off a Qatari side who looked all at sea on the Algarve against Portugal on Saturday.

They lost that match 3-0, didn't win a single corner and managed only three shots against a team who weren't at their slickest.

Ireland and Qatar drew 1-1 in March in Hungary when the reigning Asian Cup winners were preparing for Gold Cup action, a tournament in which they would eventually go on to lose to the USA in the semis.

Since the summer, however, Felix Sanchez's men haven't won a game and take on an Ireland side who have lost just one of their last seven and look a million miles better than the team humiliated by Luxembourg in March.
