Portsmouth have set the pace in Sky Bet League One since the end of September and they can stretch their lead over second-placed Luton to nine points by beating Charlton at Fratton Park.

Kenny Jackett's men have won their last eight matches in all competitions but still don't seem to have fully convinced the markets.

They are just a shade of odds-on to beat seventh-placed Charlton, who slipped out of the playoff places with a 2-1 loss at Blackpool on Saturday.

Portsmouth's average of 2.35 points per game puts them on course to collect 108 this season yet they are as big as 7-4 to finish top of the division.

Jackett's side are up against strong rivals in the promotion race with Sunderland losing just one game in their last 19 and Luton on a four-match winning sequence, but they keep grinding out the results and were typically solid at the weekend, winning 2-0 at home to Southend and denying their opponents any shots on target.

Portsmouth's defensive record of just 15 league goals conceded is the best in the division and their attacking quartet of Ronan Curtis, Jamaal Lowe, Gareth Evans and Oli Hawkins have shared the goals around with seven, seven, six and five respectively.

Two of Charlton's strikers – ten-goal Karlan Ahearne-Grant and nine-goal Lyle Taylor – are higher up the goalscoring charts but the Addicks are struggling defensively.

They have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven games and any slips could leave them with a mountain to climb against such disciplined, well-organised opponents.

Wrexham's 0-0 draw at home to Newport in the FA Cup second round was a tight affair and the replay at Rodney Parade could be just as close.

National League highflyers Wrexham have lost just one of their last 15 games and look overpriced to stun their Sky Bet League Two hosts, who have gone three matches without a win.
