Match preview

Qatar was recently treated to plenty of star-studded, goal-laden showdowns and eager not to be outdone, neighbours Saudi Arabia are getting ready to host a potentially high-scoring El Clasico edition of the Spanish Super Cup final.

The Saudis splashed the cash to bring Spain’s top sides to the Middle East to contest the Super Cup and will no doubt have been delighted to see Real Madrid and Barcelona edge out semi-final opponents Valencia and Real Betis on penalties to set up a 16th final between the great rivals.

Xavi is one win away from his first piece of silverware as Barca boss and the Blaugrana are favourites to avenge their league loss to Real this season.

Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti is looking to claim a fifth trophy since his return to the club in August 2021 but those plans have been hit by injuries to Eduardo Camavinga, Lucas Vazquez, Eder Militao, David Alaba and Aurelien Tchouameni, leaving him short in midfield and defence.

Ancelotti still has plenty of quality up front and can call upon fit-again Karim Benzema, who scored his 11th goal of the season in the semi-final.

Barcelona are hardly short on firepower with the deadly Robert Lewandowski leading the line and there’s enough attacking talent to help over 2.5 goals to land for a seventh successive competitive Clasico.
