Team news

Match preview

Liverpool’s only win in six attempts this year came against Wolves in an FA Cup replay at Molineux, but there is little incentive to back them for a repeat triumph.

In the initial third-round tie at Anfield the pair played out a 2-2 draw, yet it was Wolves who were left aggrieved after they had a late winner controversially ruled out by VAR.

Wolves may not have created enough clear-cut chances in the replay to feel as disgruntled but they enjoyed more possession, had more shots and were only undone by a stunner from Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott.

So Liverpool, who are ninth in the Premier League, must be wary because the goalless draw at home to Chelsea and the 2-1 FA Cup defeat at Brighton that have followed show they’ve not yet taken the necessary steps forward.

The Reds are still hampered by injuries to key players but they have won only twice in nine Premier League away games this season. Wolves, on the other hand, have shown big improvement since appointing Julen Lopetegui as manager and could inflict another setback on the visitors.

Key stat

Liverpool have conceded at least twice in four of their last six matches in all competitions.
