Match preview
West Brom have picked up some impressive results away from home in recent weeks and Sam Allardyce will be desperate to extend that trend when the Baggies visit one of his many former clubs, West Ham.
Any club in the Premier League would be happy with West Brom's last three road trips – 1-1 draws at Manchester City and Liverpool and a 3-2 win at Wolves – but they remain five points from safety after an eventful start to Allardyce's reign.
Big Sam's first three home games in charge of the Baggies produced heavy defeats to Aston Villa (3-0), Leeds (5-0) and Arsenal (4-0) while a return to Blackpool, where his managerial career began in 1994, ended in a penalty-shootout defeat in the FA Cup third round.
Spot-kicks also played a decisive role in Saturday's win at Wolves, where Matheus Pereira scored two penalties to help West Brom record only their second league win in 18 games this term.
Following up against West Ham will not be easy, however, as the Londoners have been racking up the clean sheets recently.
They restricted Burnley to just two shots on target as Michail Antonio's early goal gave them a 1-0 home win on Saturday and that result followed another 1-0 victory away to Everton and a goalless draw at Southampton.
West Brom's win at Molineux was a major boost for Allardyce and his squad but they had scored only 11 goals in 17 league games before that fixture and are unlikely to carve out many chances against a Hammers defence well protected by midfielders Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.
The return of last season's top scorer Antonio from a hamstring injury provides a focal point for their attack and the striker should enjoy the service of attacking midfielders Jarrod Bowen, Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.
West Ham are worthy favourites given their opponents' dismal defensive record this season. The Baggies held firm, just about, to pick up unlikely points at the Etihad and Anfield but they have still conceded 41 goals at an average of 2.28 per game.
Both of the goals West Brom let in against Wolves stemmed from their failure to clear set-pieces and former Baggies stalwart Craig Dawson looks a big price to take advantage.
The centre-back, on loan at West Ham from Watford, has had a decent goalscoring record throughout his career and he headed in the only goal of the game in last week's FA Cup tie at Stockport.
Key stat
West Ham have failed to score in only one of their last 13 home games in all competitions.
