Match preview
Arsenal have shown no signs of improvement after sacking Unai Emery and Freddie Ljungberg could be heading for another nightmare result when the Gunners head to London rivals West Ham.
Caretaker coach Ljungberg played for both clubs in his illustrious career but only one of them is truly in his heart and yet the Swede has quickly realised it needs much more than Arsenal DNA to sort out the mess he has inherited.
Arsenal were hanging on against Norwich in a 2-2 draw at Carrow Road in the first match after Emery's departure and the second, a 2-1 defeat at home to Brighton on Thursday, has seen the club hit full crisis mode.
They are without a win in nine matches - Arsenal's worst run since 1977 in all competitions - and make little appeal to triumph at the London Stadium despite drifting from early odds-on quotes.
This sorry spell has not even come in a particularly difficult set of fixtures with matches against Crystal Palace (home), Liverpool's reserves (away), Wolves (home), Vitoria Guimaraes (away), Leicester (away), Eintracht Frankfurt (home), Norwich (away) and Brighton (home).
Two wins in the last 13 Premier League games - both at home by one-goal margins - does not bode well and the underlying issues hint at even darker problems.
Arsenal are in the bottom-half on some expected-goal ratings and heading into the weekend fixtures only Aston Villa and Norwich had allowed more shots.
They look sulky in attack, disorganised in midfield and chaotic at the back, both individually and as a collective.
Playing on Thursday and Sunday does not offer Ljungberg the chance to impose his tactical blueprint and who knows if that would be a good thing or not anyway for the novice boss?
Arsenal have kept only three Premier League clean sheets on the road since Christmas 2017 and will need Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to get the defence out of trouble if they are to win at West Ham.
That is possible since the Hammers have been hapless themselves in recent weeks, although their 1-0 win at Chelsea shows what is possible from a talented if under-performing squad.
West Ham need to improve from Wednesday's 2-0 defeat at Wolves but they are capable of raising their game.
The victory at Stamford Bridge was their fifth success in 16 league away games against the traditional big six since the start of last season with Manchester City and Tottenham the only London Stadium victors of England's elite.
Key stat
Arsenal have won only one of their last six away games at West Ham.
