Team news

Watford
Ismaila Sarr (knee), Nicolas Nkoulou (hamstring) and Ben Foster (groin) will not feature again this year and Francisco Sierralta, Ken Sema and Peter Etebo remain sidelined. Adam Masina is expected to shake off a minor injury and Emmanuel Dennis and Juraj Kucka (both knocks) are doubts.

Chelsea
Reece James, Jorginho and Timo Werner are doubts with minor injuries and N'Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ben Chilwell remain unavailable.

Match preview

Chelsea have dropped points in their last two Premier League home games but they have won four successive away fixtures and should assert early control away to struggling Watford by opening up a first-half lead and going on to seal a comfortable three points.

A fast start from the Blues seems likely against the injury-hit Hornets, who shipped three first-half goals during Sunday's 4-2 loss at Leicester.

Watford defended dreadfully at the King Power Stadium but Claudio Ranieri has few options to change things around because he is without injured central defenders Francisco Sierralta and Nicolas Nkoulou.

Ranieri is also missing two of his first-choice front three with Ismaila Sarr ruled out until next year and Emmanuel Dennis struggling to shake off a minor injury.

Chelsea have injury problems with N'Golo Kante, Ben Chilwell and Mateo Kovacic out of the equation, but they also have a much deeper squad and should pass the test with a bit to spare.

Key stat

Chelsea have been ahead at half-time and full-time in two of their last three games.
