Team news

Southampton
Kyle Walker-Peters is back from injury but Tino Livramento, Juan Larios and Romeo Lavia remain sidelined.

Brighton
Adam Webster and Adam Lallana should be available but Jakub Moder is out, while the Seagulls have given World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister a two-week break.

Match preview

Southampton manager Nathan Jones spent five years with Brighton during his playing career and was also a former caretaker boss at the club so will have added motivation when the south-coast rivals square up on Monday afternoon.

Jones has, however, taken charge of only two matches with the Saints so far, losing to Liverpool in the Premier League and edging Lincoln in the EFL Cup.

And top of his list of priorities as Southampton manager will be improving on a dire home record which has seen the club win only one of their seven Premier League games at St Mary's this term.

As for Brighton, they wobbled slightly when Roberto De Zerbi replaced Graham Potter earlier in the season but found form before the World Cup break and are seventh in the standings.

Brighton are worth a bet at odds-against to win this contest.
