Match preview

Curing Arsenal's travel sickness will be paramount in Unai Emery's mission to get the Gunners back in the Premier League top four but more away-day misery may await them at Bramall Lane.

There has been plenty of support for the north London club, who are evens favourites to beat the Blades, but backing Chris Wilder's men to avoid defeat could be the way to go.

Under the lights, Sheffield United will look to generate an intimidating atmosphere, limit chances in their compact 3-5-2 formation and win the physical battle against the Gunners.

That is the tactic they have adopted of late, beating Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park and holding Watford to a goalless draw either side of a narrow loss to league leaders Liverpool.

They kept Jurgen Klopp's side quiet for 70 minutes on that occasion before a goalkeeping howler from Dean Henderson handed the Merseysiders a 1-0 win.

Arsenal have had no issues in the final third with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, on seven league goals, profiting from his more central role in the absence of Alexandre Lacazette.

But his French strike partner may be in contention after returning to training from an ankle injury leaving Emery with a selection dilemma in attack.

It will, however, be Arsenal's defence which is giving Emery sleepless nights.

They have kept only two clean sheets in their opening eight league games and shipped in every game on the road since beating Newcastle 1-0 on the opening weekend.

Arsenal managed only one clean sheet on the road in the entirety of last season, away to a Watford side reduced to ten men early on.

Emery at least has the likes of Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Kieran Tierney available for selection again but bedding them into the side could take time and the Gunners may struggle to blunt the Blades.

Wilder has a plethora of forwards eager to nail down a starting spot including Callum Robinson, David McGoldrick and Oli McBurnie and they have proven tougher top-flight opponents than expected.

Arsenal cannot afford to be complacent as they were when relinquishing a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 away to Watford last month and Wilder will undoubtedly be aware of the need to press and force the away side's rearguard into making mistakes.

No Premier League player made more individual errors leading to goals than Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno (six) last season and United could look to test the German shot-stopper in the game's opening stages.

Arsenal are odds-on to return to the Champions League by achieving a top-four finish and that looks about right but their European aspirations may take a hit by a United side adjusting well to Premier League life.

Key stat

Arsenal have won only two of their last seven Premier League away matches.
