Newcastle are 8-11 second-favourites to be relegated from the Premier League after their 4-0 defeat at Leicester on Sunday and the fixture list suggests things could get worse for the Magpies before they get better.

A Youri Tielemans brace and goals from Patson Daka and James Maddison gave injury-hit Leicester a thumping home victory over Newcastle, who travel to title contenders Liverpool on Thursday.

Eddie Howe's men are 22-1 to beat the 1-8 Reds at Anfield and they will also be chalked up as big outsiders for Sunday's home fixture against champions Manchester City.

Newcastle held Liverpool to two draws in the league last season and they are 9-1 to take a point off Jurgen Klopp's side on Thursday.

The schedule does not get any easier for the Magpies after Christmas as they host Manchester United on December 27 and only Norwich, beaten 1-0 by the Red Devils on Saturday, are a shorter price than Newcastle in the relegation betting.

Former Bournemouth boss Howe, who was appointed as Steve Bruce's successor last month following the club's Saudi-backed takeover, led Newcastle to their first league win of the 2021-22 campaign, at the 15th time of asking, when they beat fellow strugglers Burnley 1-0 on December 4.

They were unable to build on that result at the King Power Stadium despite facing a Leicester defence who had kept only one clean sheet in their previous 22 matches in all competitions.

Norwich, level with Newcastle at the bottom of the table on ten points from 16 games, are 1-6 for an immediate return to the Championship and Burnley, who moved up to 11 points after Sunday's goalless draw at home to West Ham, are 5-6 for the drop.

Leeds, 4-1 shots, and Southampton, at 7-1, are also in the relegation picture after Saturday's defeats at Chelsea and Arsenal.

The Clarets host Watford, who are 4-5 to be relegated, on Wednesday evening although another of the midweek Premier League fixtures could be in doubt due to a Covid-19 outbreak at Manchester United.

Several United players and staff were sent home from their Carrington training base after positive tests on Sunday and the Premier League are monitoring the situation as the Red Devils are due to face Brentford in west London on Tuesday.

Tottenham's Europa Conference League fixture against Rennes and Premier League clash with Brighton were called off on Thursday due to coronavirus in the Spurs camp and doubts remain about their clash with Leicester this week.
