Newcastle United v Southampton

Team news

Newcastle
Allan Saint-Maximin has been dealing with an ankle injury and will be monitored.

Southampton
Stuart Armstrong (hamstring) remains sidelined but no fresh injuries are reported.

Verdict

Steve Bruce is not quite the darling of Tyneside but he is doing an excellent job and can steer Newcastle to victory over Southampton.

The Magpies were widely touted as relegation candidates but they are closer to the top seven than the bottom three and were excellent in a disciplined 2-0 success at Sheffield United on Thursday.

Exciting winger Allan Saint-Maximin got his first goal on the season against the Blades and his rising confidence is a worry for Southampton, who are just a point outside the drop zone.

Key stat

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last seven home fixtures.

Norwich City v Sheffield United

Team news

Norwich
Timm Klose, Josip Drmic and Grant Hanley remain sidelined.

Sheffield United
Chris Wilder says the Blades have a clean bill of health. He could recall top scorer Lys Mousset, who dropped to the bench on Thursday.

Verdict

Sheffield United have won plaudits for their fearless, high-energy approach to games but they lacked quality in Thursday's 2-0 loss at home to Newcastle and may suffer another defeat against Norwich.

Blades' boss Chris Wilder has refused to get carried away and rightly so because his team are only five points above the relegation zone.

They are one of the teams Norwich will be trying to catch. The Canaries played well in a 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal last Sunday and may have better luck this weekend.

Key stat

Norwich have won five of their last seven home games against Sheffield United.
