Match preview

Leicester were on cloud nine after their last Premier League encounter but Crystal Palace could bring the flying Foxes back down to earth when the sides meet at Selhurst Park.

Southampton's ten men offered pathetic resistance in that astonishing 9-0 drubbing, a result that for many cemented Leicester's position as genuine Champions League contenders, and despite the match prices suggesting otherwise, this could be a more difficult 90 minutes for City.

Brendan Rodgers' side are shorter to win at Selhurst than they were St Mary's and the value could be in taking Palace to pick up another positive home result.

Manchester City are the only side to win at Palace since early March and the stubborn Eagles are unlikely to roll over as meekly as that shambolic Southampton side.

Palace showed their durability by coming from two goals down to draw at Arsenal last week and they have also won at Manchester United as Roy Hodgson's side continue to collect points at an impressive rate.

Just City, Liverpool and Chelsea have gained more points than Palace in 2019 with Hodgson's men accumulating 45 from 28 games.

They don't possess a massive amount of quality, but Hodgson's side defend well, are durable in midfield and have a genuine star in Wilfried Zaha.

The key to this game is the compact nature of their defending which may be suited to nullifying the talents of visiting forward Jamie Vardy, who has notched 18 Premier League goals in 20 matches under Rodgers.

Vardy can rely on excellent service from Youri Tielemans and James Maddison, but the former England striker is generally at his best when there is space in behind defensive lines. That may not be possibly against wily pair Gary Cahill and James Tomkins.

Leicester have also not created as many chances as their goal difference of plus 17 would suggest, with 12 of their 25 goals coming against Newcastle and Southampton, who were on the wrong end of first-half red-card decisions.

The Foxes were struggling at the wrong end of the shots on target table before smashing in 15 attempts at goal at St Mary's and they started the weekend with a similar expected-goals rating to Burnley and Brighton on some models.

Being clinical is often crucial to becoming a successful side and Leicester have certainly been just that this season but whether it can continue at Selhurst Park is open to some debate.

Key stat

All six of Crystal Palace's home games this season have featured under 2.5 goals.
