Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool predictions

Liverpool's only defeat in the first half of the 2024-25 Premier League season came against Nottingham Forest and Arne Slot's men can expect another tough test in the reverse fixture at the City Ground.

Forest's 1-0 win at Anfield appeared to be an anomaly during a modest start to the season for the Tricky Trees, who were just 5-2 in the ante-post relegation betting.

Their only other victory in their first eight matches was a 1-0 win at promoted Southampton and they suffered comprehensive defeats to Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester City either side of November's international break.

Since December's 3-0 loss at City, however, Forest have won six out of six in the league and they eased past Championship strugglers Luton 2-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

That made it five victories to nil on the spin for Nuno's men, who have looked far more accomplished defensively than Liverpool in recent weeks.

The Reds saw off League Two Accrington 4-0 in the FA Cup with a much-changed team but they were rattled by Manchester United in their last league fixture, a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

That was followed by a weary display in the 1-0 EFL Cup semi-final first-leg defeat at Tottenham while Liverpool also dropped points in high-scoring draws away to Newcastle and at home to Fulham last month.

They bounced back with a couple of thumping away wins either side of Christmas, winning 6-3 at Tottenham and 5-0 at West Ham – a result that hastened the end of Julen Lopetegui's short spell in charge of the Hammers.

A trip to the City Ground is likely to be a very different test for Liverpool as only Arsenal have conceded fewer goals than Forest's tally of 19 goals this season.

Both clubs have started the new year in better shape physically than most of their rivals and, while Forest are far from prolific, they should trouble Liverpool's leaky defence.

Nuno's side have scored 29 goals this term, two fewer than struggling Wolves, but they are likely to line up with an exciting trio of Hudson-Odoi, Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga in support of top scorer Chris Wood.

Elliot Anderson has impressed in central midfield, full-backs Neco Williams and Ola Aina love to get forward while Wood and centre-back Nikola Milenkovic are major aerial threats from set-pieces.

Liverpool, top of the Premier League and Champions League, have to be respected but, at the prices, Forest are worth backing to prove that their win at Anfield was no fluke.

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool bet builder predictions

Nottingham Forest or draw double chance
The Tricky Trees have won their last seven matches, keeping clean sheets in their last five victories

Neco Williams to have one or more shots
The former Liverpool youngster has had eight attempts at goal in his last seven games for Forest and could cause problems down the Reds' right flank

More goals to be scored in second half
Forest's nine home league matches have produced only six first-half goals and this has been a winning bet in five of Liverpool's last six top-flight games
