Match preview
Norwich hit rock-bottom in the Premier League on Thursday and there may not be an immediate response when Tottenham visit Carrow Road.
Daniel Farke's outfit made hay while the sun was shining, beating Newcastle and Manchester City in the opening five matches, but since that sensational triumph over the champions it has been a struggle for last season's Sky Bet Championship title-winners.
The only success since then came at Everton towards the end of Marco Silva's reign and, although they have earned plaudits for performances, City's defensive issues could cost them top-flight survival.
They were the better side against Aston Villa on Thursday in a harsh 1-0 reverse, following on from a 2-1 defeat to Wolves when the Canaries fell apart after the break.
Norwich also struggled in the latter stages of their 2-1 defeat to Sheffield United earlier in December and maintaining high levels of intensity may be a problem in their second match in three days.
Tottenham have the stronger squad should Jose Mourinho decide to rotate and can come out on top in what should be a high-scoring encounter given the two sides have managed only four Premier League clean sheets between them this season.
The Norfolk natives were gutted when Ben Godfrey was recently ruled out until mid-February with a knee injury, although City had found the step up to the elite difficult even with their classy centre-back available.
Newcastle are the only side not to have scored at least twice at Carrow Road this season and Spurs pack more of a punch than your average Premier League team with Harry Kane and Dele Alli on the hunt for further late Christmas presents.
Both were on target as Tottenham came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 on Thursday, quickly bouncing back from a deserved 2-0 defeat to Chelsea on Sunday.
Mourinho has also suffered losses to Manchester United and Bayern Munich since replacing Mauricio Pochettino, but crucially he has found a way to overcome the lesser lights to help Spurs back to within three points of the Champions League qualification spots.
Victory at Carrow Road would, temporarily at least, move them into the top four and the loss to suspension of midfield pair Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks could be a blessing.
It should mean recalls for more technically gifted members of the squad such as attack-minded duo Christian Eriksen and Giovani Lo Celso, players who would increase the chances of goals at both ends.
Key stat
Norwich and Tottenham have the joint-fewest Premier League clean sheets (two) this season.
