Next Spurs manager odds: Brendan Rodgers and Scott Parker head the market

Premier League bosses dominate betting to succeed Jose Mourinho

The early betting on Tottenham's next permanent manager was dominated by some big-name European coaches but now it appears Daniel Levy may have to look closer to home.

While Jose Mourinho has wasted little time in securing a new job, being confirmed as Roma's manager for next season, Spurs are still on the hunt for his replacement.

Leicester's Brendan Rodgers is 4-1 chance to succeed Mourinho and Fulham's Scott Parker, despite being on the brink of a second Premier League relegation in three years, is Ladbrokes' new favourite at 7-2.

Parker, who played for Tottenham between 2011 and 2013, won the 2019-20 Championship playoffs with Fulham in his first full season as a manager but he was not considered a serious contender for the Spurs job immediately after Mourinho's departure last month.

However, Leipzig's Julian Nagelsmann – reportedly Levy's top target – was swiftly snapped up by Bayern Munich on a long-term deal.

Early favourite Erik Ten Hag traded as short as 4-6 for the Tottenham job before signing a one-year contract extension with Dutch champions Ajax and former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is out to 16-1 having been backed into 7-4 a couple of weeks ago.

Sarri had been favourite for the Roma job before Mourinho's appointment so his odds for the Spurs role may well shorten again.

Leicester boss Rodgers has publicly ruled himself out of the running, which is no surprise given that the Foxes are focused on sealing a top-four finish and Champions League qualification – and Spurs are part of the chasing pack.

Bookmakers believe Rodgers remains a viable candidate, however, and fellow Premier League managers Nuno Espirito Santo of Wolves (6-1) and Brighton's Graham Potter (10-1) are also prominent in the betting.

That leaves former Leipzig coach Ralf Rangnick as the leading non-Premier League contender to succeed Mourinho.

The influential German is a 6-1 shot although his most recent role was as Red Bull's head of sport and development and it is unclear whether he would be keen to return to club management at the age of 62.

Tottenham's interim manager Ryan Mason is at the other end of his career and the 29-year-old is 20-1 to get the gig on a permanent basis, which would represent an enormous leap of faith for a club of Tottenham's stature.

Mason's men lost 1-0 to Manchester City in the EFL Cup final, which is no disgrace, and he has also overseen two home Premier League wins over struggling Southampton (2-1) and relegated Sheffield United (4-0).

Gareth Bale scored an excellent hat-trick against the Blades on Sunday but when Mason was asked whether the Real Madrid loanee might extend his stay, he replied: "I think that is a discussion for once the season is done".

And Spurs fans may also have to be patient when it comes to the identity of their next manager. More than a fortnight after Mourinho's sacking, it is still 4-1 the field and Levy seems content to take his time over this crucial appointment.
