It's been an underwhelming season but there are signs of a positive finish for Manchester City, who sealed their place in the FA Cup final with last weekend’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at Wembley and are also in a prime position to guarantee themselves Champions League football.

A run of four wins in five has enabled City to return to the top five and they will be eager for more success against Wolves at the Etihad.

A gentle end to City's season features fixtures against Southampton, Bournemouth and Fulham, but Wolves are also finishing the campaign with a flourish and are unlikely to be swatted aside with ease.

Vitor Pereira has hauled the Old Gold from the depths of a relegation fight to 13th in the Premier League table and they head to Manchester following six straight successes.

The visitors have profited from a soft schedule – all of their last six victims are below them in the standings – but it is still a remarkable transformation and City cannot afford to take them lightly.

Brazilian magician Matheus Cunha has been ably supported by Jorgen Strand Larsen, who has scored in five of his last six games, and Wolves have the attacking resources to make City work hard for their rewards.

Wanderers have scored in 11 consecutive league games, which include a 2-0 home victory over Aston Villa and a 2-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, and they can certainly make their presence felt at the Etihad.

Despite their early-season struggles, Wolves have failed to score in only three of their 17 away league games this term and that should offer plenty of hope against City, who are still a long way off perfection.

The Citizens have kept only two clean sheets in their last ten home league games and they were fortunate to record a shutout in their FA Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest, who hit the woodwork three times at Wembley.

There is no doubt that City are getting stronger, and January arrival Omar Marmoush has been a key part of their revival, while having talisman Erling Haaland back in training will add another string to their bow even if this match is expected to come too soon.

However, City have conceded in their last two home wins over Crystal Palace and Aston Villa and a repeat scenario could be on the cards against Wolves, who have scored in their last three Premier League meetings with the Citizens including a 2-1 loss at Molineux in October.

Pep Guardiola’s side may be able to claim three vital points in their pursuit of Champions League football, but a resurgent Wolves are brimming with belief and may not make it easy for them.
