Manchester Utd to win

Manchester United have not finished above Manchester City since winning the Premier League title in 2012-13 but they have been successful in recent derbies – taking ten points from the last four – and have a decent chance this weekend.

The Red Devils copped a lot of flak after their capitulation against Liverpool but they have responded with two important results, winning 3-0 at Tottenham and drawing 2-2 away to Atalanta.

The clubs are separated by just three points in the Premier League table and City have a few questions to answer after following up their EFL Cup exit at West Ham with a 2-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace.

Pep Guardiola's were comfortable 4-1 winners at home to Club Brugge on Wednesday but they are still striving for consistency in the league and could be worth opposing.

Cristiano Ronaldo to score anytime

Big matches need big-match players and there are none more reliable than Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored nine goals in 11 appearances this season.

The Portuguese produced two superb finishes to rescue a point against Atalanta and could expose a City defence weakened by the absence of suspended defender Aymeric Laporte.

Under four match goals

There will be a huge amount of attacking talent on the pitch but both teams will have great respect for each other and may be reluctant to leave themselves too open.

The last five Manchester derbies have generated a total of seven goals and a goal glut looks unlikely this weekend.
