Team news

Manchester United
Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Scott McTominay are doubts while Jadon Sancho is unlikely to be considered.

Bournemouth
David Brooks and Neto are sidelined, Ryan Fredericks, Junior Stanislas and Marcus Tavernier are doubts.

Match preview

Manchester United's rise has been based on solid defensive foundations and there is every chance of them pocketing three points and a clean sheet against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.

Poor defending was a major issue for United last season and there appeared no sign of improvement when the Red Devils shipped six goals in their opening two matches of the 2022-23 campaign.

However, they have tightened up considerably, especially at the Theatre of Dreams where they have secured shutouts in their last four league fixtures.

Building a strong defensive platform has been key because United have scored just 24 goals, which is two fewer than at the same stage of last season.

David De Gea made a few saves in Saturday's 1-0 success at Wolves, but he could be largely redundant against Bournemouth, who have lost their last three games without scoring.

The Cherries created little in a 2-0 loss at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday and are unlikely to fare any better against United.
