Man City vs Aston Villa predictions
With the Premier League title race and relegation places pretty much sewn up, all eyes are on the battle for Champions League places, and Manchester City's clash with Aston Villa on Tuesday is as big as any remaining fixture this campaign.
Pep Guardiola is no stranger to hyperbole but is on the money with his assessment of this week's game as a "final" given there are five teams pushing for the Champions League places below Liverpool and Arsenal and two are set to miss out.
Failing to qualify for the Champions League would be disappointing for Aston Villa after they got a taste for life at the top table this season.
But for City, it would be a disaster.
The good news for fans of the Citizens is they have finally found some consistency with four wins and two draws from their last six Premier League matches and they have lost just one league encounter since February's defeat to Liverpool.
The biggest clubs typically reach top gear at this stage of the season and bookmakers are confident City will make their experience count, with Coral rating them 1-7 to make the top five.
Bouncing back from their aggregate defeat to PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals, Villa sent out an emphatic statement with their 4-1 win over Newcastle on Saturday,
It was a scintillating attacking display from Unai Emery's side, who blew open the race for the top five, but performances like that have typically been reserved for Villa Park this term.
Villa have claimed 34 of their 57 Premier League points on their own turf this season and they have especially struggled on their travels against stronger opponents.
They were fortunate to lose only 3-1 away to PSG at the Parc des Princes this month and they have failed to win any of their five away games against the Premier League's current top six, losing four and drawing one.
History is also against them as Villa last won away to City in the league back in the April 2007, when John Carew and Shaun Maloney were on the scoresheet.
City were devastating in their latest home fixture, recovering from 2-0 down after 21 minutes to hammer Crystal Palace 5-2, and they can show their class and experience to down Emery's men at the Etihad Stadium.
