Liverpool vs Wolves predictions

This time last week, ahead of their FA Cup clash with Plymouth and having just booked their place in the EFL Cup final with a 4-0 rout of Tottenham, Liverpool were being tipped by many for a quadruple, which had been shortened from a pre-season 1500-1 to just 33-1.

However, a week is a long time in football and those hopes have been firmly quashed.

The Reds were victims of an almighty FA Cup shock last Sunday when they went down 1-0 to Argyle at Home Park, and they were unable to dust themselves off for Wednesday’s Merseyside derby as James Tarkowski’s last-minute volley ensured Liverpool would be leaving their final visit to Goodison Park with just a point.

Arne Slot's side will still be feeling the effects of that gruelling 2-2 draw – the manager was sent off after the final whistle – and while they will be bidding to bounce back in style, a visit from Wolves may not be straightforward.

Wanderers are still battling at the wrong end of the table and earning any points could prove beyond them given Liverpool are unbeaten in 20 Premier League matches while the Old Gold have managed just two wins in their last 18 league away games.

Recent results suggest, however, that they can at least keep the Anfield scoreline down.

Wolves followed an impressive 2-0 league victory over Aston Villa with a repeat scoreline against a spirited Blackburn in the FA Cup, and the clean sheets in those clashes suggest Vitor Pereira has made good progress in fixing Wanderers’ greatest issue – their defence.

The Old Gold conceded 2.5 goals per game in their opening 16 league matches of the season but that has dropped to just 1.5 since the experienced Portuguese manager took charge.

They will need all of that defensive resilience against the league’s top scorers, but there is reason to believe they can put in a strong Merseyside performance.

Arsenal, Liverpool’s closest pursuers in the title race, could manage only a 1-0 victory over Wolves last month and while the Reds may not be as toothless, a rout does seem unlikely.

Just two of Liverpool’s last five Premier League matches have gone over 3.5 goals and it could pay to combine the under with a home win.

Liverpool vs Wolves bet builder predictions

Mohamed Salah anytime goalscorer
Liverpool's star man has scored in five straight games, netting six goals in that run, and can put one past Wolves for the second time this season.

Joao Gomes to be booked
No Wolves player has picked up more Premier League yellow cards than the Brazilian's eight and he could be in for a tough afternoon against Liverpool's dynamic midfield trio.

Matheus Cunha over 1.5 shots
Wanderers' talisman has fired off at least two shots in 16 straight games, including eight against Blackburn last time, and he should be heavily involved in anything Wolves do going forwards.
