Liverpool vs Man City predictions
Manchester City are on their worst run of the Pep Guardiola era and that unprecedented slump is reflected by the match betting for their crucial Premier League fixture trip to Liverpool.
For the first time in seven years, according to Hills, City will be outsiders to win a league game and it is hard to argue with bookmakers' assessment of the Anfield showdown.
Leaders Liverpool continued their remarkable start under Arne Slot by beating Real Madrid 2-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Reds thumped Bayer Leverkusen 4-0 in their previous European home game and, having beaten the German and Spanish champions at Anfield in recent weeks, they now have the English title holders in their sights.
City's four-game losing streak before the international break was a shock but not a crisis. All four matches were away from home – an EFL Cup loss at Tottenham with a weakened team, narrow league defeats at Bournemouth and Brighton, and a 4-1 Champions League reverse against Sporting.
But last weekend's 4-0 home defeat to Spurs, coupled with their spectacular collapse against Feyenoord in the Champions League on Tuesday, mean Pep's men will surely arrive at Anfield with a sense of trepidation.
They led Feyenoord 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium before conceding goals in the 74th, 82nd and 89th minutes to draw 3-3.
Wednesday's capitulation took City's tally of goals conceded to 15 in their last five matches and Liverpool are primed to exploit that soft underbelly on home turf.
With Rodri and Mateo Kovacic injured, Guardiola is desperately searching for some steel in midfield and whatever combination of Rico Lewis, Ilkay Gundogan and Matheus Nunes he selects is likely to be up against a formidable Liverpool duo of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.
Dutch international Gravenberch has started all 12 of Liverpool's league matches this season, fulfilling the potential that earned him a move from Ajax to Bayern Munich as a 20-year-old.
While City's players are struggling to live up to their usual standards, Slot has inspired improved displays from Gravenberch, Luis Diaz, Dominik Szoboszlai, Curtis Jones and goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, an excellent understudy for the injured Alisson.
Stalwarts Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also ever-present in the league and Salah has contributed ten goals and six assists in 12 starts.
Trent Alexander-Arnold should be fit to return, adding an extra dimension to Liverpool's attacking threat.
The Reds are eight points better off than City after a dozen matches of the season and, as the betting suggests, they have a great chance to extend their lead on Sunday.
