Premier League: Liverpool v Tottenham

Where to watch

Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League, 4.30pm Sunday

Match odds

1-2 Liverpool
6-1 Tottenham
7-2 Draw

Form

These teams have gone in very different directions since last season's Champions League final and 2-0 victors Liverpool are 13 points clear of Tottenham after just nine Premier League matches.

Liverpool dropped their first points of the season in last week's 1-1 draw at Manchester United but they have triumphed in eight of their nine league games and Anfield remains a fortress - Jurgen Klopp's side are on a 14-match home winning streak.

Compare that to Spurs, who are without an away domestic success since January 20 and manager Mauricio Pochettino has been among the front-runners in the sack-race market with a 7-2 humiliation against Bayern Munich followed by a woeful 3-0 loss at Brighton.

They were lucky to get a 1-1 home draw with rock-bottom Watford last week but bounced back with a seasonal-best performance to smash Red Star Belgrade 5-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Team news

Liverpool are hopeful Trent Alexander-Arnold will recover from a virus and Joel Matip could also be back after missing Wednesday's Champions League win away to Club Brugge. That game saw Mohamed Salah make a goalscoring return to the starting 11.

Captain and first-choice keeper Hugo Lloris remains out for Spurs and Ryan Sessegnon is still trying to get up to full fitness.

The tactical battle

Pochettino has tinkered throughout the campaign, using a back three, a flat 4-4-2, a midfield diamond and the 4-2-3-1 which got most of his influential players in the right positions against Red Star.

It allowed Dele Alli to break beyond Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son was electric on the left flank. But can the South Korean be trusted to track back against the dangerous Alexander-Arnold?

Liverpool have occasionally switched to a 4-2-3-1 during spells of matches in recent weeks, however, with his strikers all fit Klopp could stick with the 4-1-2-3 shape which was successful in all three meetings with Spurs last season.

Verdict

The Merseysiders have won all five of their home matches this season with both teams scoring and it could be the same again at Anfield.

Spurs have the forward players to make Liverpool work, although they look shaky in defence and that spells trouble given the firepower in Klopp's ranks. 2-1 Liverpool.
