Match preview

With the Premier League title wrapped up, Liverpool's run-in could still provide excitement for football statisticians and the Reds are just two games away from completing a perfect campaign at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp's champions have won all 17 of their home league games this season and they are hot favourites to make it 18 when Burnley visit Merseyside on Saturday.

Such dominance is nothing new for Klopp, whose side were unbeaten at home in the 2017-18 campaign and took 53 points from a possible 57 at Anfield last season.

Liverpool were walloped 4-0 at Manchester City in their first game after sealing the title but normal service resumed with wins over Aston Villa (2-0) and Brighton (3-1).

The Reds' standards have inevitably slipped a notch or two since they ended their 30-year wait for a league championship but Klopp continues to select strong line-ups so in-form Burnley cannot expect an easy ride.

However, the likely absence of Jordan Henderson, who scored an excellent early goal at Brighton before suffering a knee injury, reduces Liverpool's competitive edge a little and backing a home win with both teams scoring looks the best value.

That bet has copped in ten of Liverpool's 17 home matches this season and Burnley, despite their dismal defensive record against the top teams, can at least get on the scoresheet.

Sean Dyche's side resumed their campaign with a 5-0 drubbing at Manchester City, who had beaten them 4-1 in December's reverse fixture.

The Clarets lost 4-2 at home and 3-0 away to third-placed Chelsea and were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool at Turf Moor but they come into Saturday's game buoyed by a fine run of form.

Burnley's last four matches have yielded 1-0 wins over Watford, Crystal Palace and West Ham, as well as a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United, and the rout against City was their only defeat in their last 12 league games.

A trip to Liverpool is a step up in class, of course, but that run includes a 2-1 home win over Leicester and a 2-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Jay Rodriguez, Matej Vydra and Dwight McNeil are lively attacking options while 11-goal top scorer Chris Wood came off the bench in the last two matches and the Clarets have scored 11 times from set pieces this season.

Key stat

Burnley have conceded 19 goals in five games against the Premier League's top three.
