Match preview
Fixtures between Liverpool and Arsenal have generated the highest number of goals in Premier League history - a total of 169 - and another all-action affair is on the cards at Anfield on Saturday.
Arsenal are up to fifth after taking 20 points from their last eight games but they have a wretched recent record at Anfield – losing on their last five league visits.
The Gunners have conceded at least three goals on each of their last six league visits to Anfield and while they have been much more solid in recent weeks, keeping clean sheets in three successive fixtures, it is likely that they will buckle against Jurgen Klopp's title hopefuls.
Liverpool have had a few nervous moments over the international break with reports of injuries to key players Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson and Sadio Mane.
However, only Henderson is considered a doubt to face the Gunners and Liverpool's high-quality front three of Mane, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah should cause Arsenal plenty of problems.
Salah is setting a searing pace in the goalscoring charts with ten goals in 11 appearances, although he hasn't found the net since bagging a hat-trick in last month's 5-0 rout at Manchester United.
However, Liverpool looked dangerous enough in the recent 3-2 loss at West Ham, where they paid the price for making too many defensive errors.
Klopp will be looking for greater solidity against the Gunners, who will perhaps look to emulate the Hammers' tactics of sitting deep and waiting for the right moments to spring forward on the counter-attack.
Mikel Arteta's side produced a good performance on their last road trip at Leicester – winning 2-0 despite being restricted to only 36 per cent of possession – although they were indebted to goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who made eight saves to keep the Londoners' lead intact.
Ramsdale has delivered a string of good performances and was rewarded with a first England cap in the 10-0 success away to San Marino on Monday, although he will be a much busier man on Merseyside than he was in Serravalle.
Arsenal have been steadily growing in confidence and look a different side to the group who folded in early-season losses at the hands of Chelsea and Manchester City, but Saturday's trip to Liverpool is the first time since August that they have faced one of the three leading title contenders.
The trip to Anfield will be an acid test of Arsenal's capabilities and, while they have every chance of getting on the scoresheet, they are unlikely to walk away with any points.
