Match preview

Frank Lampard will be feeling a little more secure after Chelsea's 1-0 success at Fulham on Saturday and his level of comfort could increase with a victory at Leicester.

The Blues were far from their best at Craven Cottage, where Fulham had to play the entire second half with ten men, but the result mattered far more than the performance.

Chelsea's victory ended a sequence of three league games without a win and kept them involved in the battle for Champions League qualification.

Lampard's minimum requirement is to nail down a top-four finish and he will be acutely aware of the importance of a decent result against Leicester, who are one of the main rivals in the scramble for European places.

For long periods of last season the Foxes looked certainties for a top-four finish but they won only two of their nine games after the season resumed.

Despite the intense disappointment, Leicester have dusted themselves down and come back strongly.

Their 35-point haul is four fewer than they had at same stage of last season but they are in third place and there is the huge incentive of moving to the top if they beat Chelsea.

Brendan Rodgers' side have done their best work on the road, picking up seven victories in nine matches, including notable successes over Manchester City (5-2), Arsenal (1-0) and Tottenham (2-0).

But they have suffered four home defeats – the most among the top-half teams – and that tally is almost certain to increase with five of the big six clubs yet to play at the King Power Stadium.

The absence of fans seems to be having a major influence on Premier League results with nine teams collecting more points on the road than at home and Chelsea will add their name to that list if they can flatten the Foxes.

One of the Blues' greatest assets is their squad depth, which was a key aspect in their serene progress through the Champions League group stage.

It can also help at a busy stage of the domestic campaign which requires them to play five games in 15 days.

Leicester's schedule is almost as demanding, and they do not have the luxury of being able to rotate their squad and maintain the same level of performance.

The Foxes rely heavily on key individuals, none more so than 11-goal top scorer Jamie Vardy, who looked like he was struggling towards the end of Saturday's 2-0 success at home to Southampton.

It would be understandable if Leicester were unable to reach the same performance level just three days later and any drop-off could encourage the Blues, who look a solid wager with the draw no bet.

Key stat

Chelsea are unbeaten in their last seven trips to Leicester.
