Match preview
How Leeds were going to adapt to life in the Premier League under their fascinating coach Marcelo Bielsa was one of the most intriguing stories of the season and it is still difficult to draw conclusions after their opening 11 matches.
Maybe it was predictable that it would be a wild ride, but while some games have been crazy, such as 4-3s against Liverpool and Fulham and a 4-1 thumping at Palace, other matches have been cagey and featured few opportunities.
Just one of their games has featured exactly three goals so it has been feast or famine, which makes Friday's home game against West Ham not only intriguing but also difficult to assess from a betting perspective.
One thing that seems pretty certain is that this is a tougher Hammers outfit than the one that would have visited Elland Road six months ago.
David Moyes's side not only flirted with relegation last season but had one leg in the taxi home, cementing their spot a week before the campaign's climax, but there seems little chance of a repeat this time.
Their CV has been pretty impressive. A defeat at Liverpool was no disgrace, while Wolves were handed a 4-0 London Stadium spanking and they won 3-0 at Leicester.
Add to that their great comeback from a three-goal deficit at Tottenham and a 1-1 draw with Manchester City and they are clearly not the pushovers they were at times last term.
That bodes well for their trip to Yorkshire and the circumstances of their defeat to Manchester United on Saturday should spur them on as the 3-1 scoreline flattered the Red Devils, who were outplayed before the interval.
Thomas Soucek and Declan Rice look solid in the heart of midfield and Jarrod Bowen continues to improve as he gathers more top-flight experience.
Three of Leeds' four wins have come on the road, so it looks worth chancing that the Hammers can edge what should be a captivating encounter.
Key stat
West Ham have lost only two of their last nine league matches.
