Match preview

Backing Everton at Goodison Park has been a costly business since the turn of the year and the hosts are easy to swerve, even against visitors as uninspiring as Wolves.

The Toffees' European ambitions were dented by a 1-0 home defeat to Sheffield United on Sunday when 17-year-old Blades striker Daniel Jebbison scored seven minutes into his first Premier League start.

Everton should have had ample time to turn things around against the relegated bottom club but, much to Carlo Ancelotti's frustration, they slipped to a ninth home defeat of the season.

Ancelotti admits he is "embarrassed" by their record at Goodison, where West Ham, Newcastle, Fulham, Manchester City, Burnley and Aston Villa have all won in 2021.

Everton have won only two of their last ten games and one of those victories was courtesy of an own goal from Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno.

Four of their last eight fixtures have been draws and they could be set for another frustrating stalemate against Wolves.

Most bookmakers rated Nuno's men as favourites to win the league without the big six at the start of the season, ahead of Leicester and Everton, but their campaign never really got going.

Fatigue after their year-long 2019-20 season was compounded by a serious head injury to top scorer Raul Jimenez in November and they have won only one of their 14 games against top-eight clubs.

However, their last six outings include narrow wins over Fulham, Sheffield United and Brighton and they are worth backing to pick up a sixth draw in 11 away games.

Key stat

Only five of Everton's 16 Premier League wins have come at Goodison Park this season.
