Match preview

Leicester's top-four ambitions are at risk of ebbing away as the season concludes and the Foxes look set to suffer another blow when they head to Goodison Park to face Everton.

Brendan Rodgers' men returned to action with an eight-point cushion over fifth place but back-to-back draws against Watford and Brighton have seen their advantage dwindle to just three points.

Fourth-placed Chelsea are just one point behind Leicester while Wolves and Manchester United are queuing up to take advantage of any mistakes from those above them in the Premier League standings.

The Foxes, who were knocked out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage by Chelsea on Sunday, have a tough schedule to negotiate starting with this difficult trip to Merseyside.

Everton will not be a factor in the top-four battle but the Toffees have improved since Carlo Ancelotti replaced Marco Silva in December and a late charge into a Europa League spot could be on the cards.

Experienced Italian coach Ancelotti has brought a degree of stability to an inconsistent team and their performances at Goodison in particular have been excellent since his appointment.

Everton are unbeaten on their own patch since his arrival and held Arsenal and Manchester United to draws on home turf. They also shut out newly-crowned champions Liverpool in a Mersey derby stalemate in their first match after the restart.

Ancelotti, who is pragmatic and knows how to get results against the Premier League's strongest teams, has led Everton to six victories in his 13 league games as manager including last week's 1-0 win over Norwich.

The Toffees have picked up 22 points with Ancelotti at the helm, a record which would translate to just over 64 points over a full season.

Leicester are on track to gain 67 points using the same metric but the Foxes have struggled since the turn of the year, winning just three league matches in 2020, and their post-restart form has been uninspiring.

While they remain solid in defence, Rodgers must address problems going forward. The Foxes have lacked an end product with Jamie Vardy netting just twice since the start of the year - a brace against Aston Villa in the final match before the season came to a halt.

While Vardy's form is a concern, Rodgers is also troubled by the expected absence of creative talisman James Maddison.

The England man was forced out of the FA Cup defeat at the weekend after sustaining a hip injury in training and Rodgers is downbeat about his chances of figuring at Goodison.

Maddison makes the Foxes tick and the Toffees could take advantage in the likely event that he doesn't feature.

Ancelotti's hosts are hard to beat and they have also had longer to prepare for this fixture. With that in mind, backing them in the draw-no-bet market could prove an attractive proposition.

Key stat

Everton are unbeaten in six home games under Carlo Ancelotti.
