Team news
Crystal Palace
Tyrick Mitchell is suspended but James Tomkins is available again. Sam Johnstone, James McArthur and Nathan Ferguson are still on the sidelines.
Tottenham
Yves Bissouma is suspended after an accumulation of yellow cards, while Rodrigo Bentancur is injured. Richarlison and Lucas Moura are out, while Dejan Kulusevski is still a doubt but could be pushed to start given Tottenham's limited options going forwards.
Match preview
A new year can often mean a fresh start but for Tottenham the same old issues reared their ugly heads in their New Year's Day defeat to Aston Villa and the pressure is mounting on Antonio Conte before their visit to Crystal Palace.
On their return to action after the World Cup break, Spurs had to dig deep to salvage a 2-2 draw with Brentford on Boxing Day and were then beaten 2-0 by Unai Emery's resurgent Villa in their opening game of 2023.
They managed only two shots on target in the defeat and conceded two goals for the seventh successive Premier League fixture, while star players Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son cut frustrated figures.
They have not been helped by player absences with Richarlison and Lucas Moura unavailable and Dejan Kulusevski's injury having limited their options up front - Bryan Gil was ineffectual in his appearance against Aston Villa.
At the other end of the pitch, Spurs have been leaking goals and they go into their London derby with Palace having picked up only one win in five matches in all competitions.
Off the pitch, the situation is not any better with Conte reluctant to commit his future to Tottenham beyond this season and frustrated by a lack of urgency from the club in the January transfer window.
Crystal Palace have struggled against the Premier League big guns, failing to win any of their four games against the current top six this campaign, but the circumstances surrounding this game should favour them.
Spurs are on a decline, whereas the Eagles picked up an important win in their final game of 2022, overpowering Bournemouth 2-0 on the south coast thanks to goals from Jordan Ayew and Eberechi Eze.
And in the corresponding fixture last season, Palace ran out 3-0 winners over Tottenham at Selhurst Park, handing Patrick Vieira his first win in charge of the club.
It has not been the most convincing of seasons from Crystal Palace but that Bournemouth win should have lifted them and they should sense blood going into this game.
They have kept things fairly tight on home soil this season, losing only three of their eight league games at Selhurst Park and shipping just 11 goals in the process.
That is bad news for an ineffective Spurs front line in which Son has been far below his best for much of the season.
Injuries aside, Tottenham's lack of depth, especially in attacking areas, is catching up with them and something has to give in the coming weeks with Conte now a best-priced 7-2 in the Premier League's sack race market.
Palace also have work to do under Vieira but should have enough in their locker to avoid defeat against their capital rivals.
Key stat
Tottenham have failed to win five of their eight away games in the Premier League this season.
