Match preview
Everton's away form has saved their season and they can grab a tenth road win of the Premier League campaign at Brighton.
The Toffees have failed to win in their three previous trips to the Amex but with Graham Potter's side notching just two victories from 15 home outings this term, the visitors will see this game as a big opportunity to boost their European hopes.
Brighton have endured a strange season, often dominating opponents only to be undone by an almost blanket inability to convert their chances. That was the case last time out when they impressed at Old Trafford, going ahead through a Danny Welbeck effort on 13 minutes only for their profligacy, and some questionable refereeing, to be punished as Manchester United triumphed 2-1.
The Seagulls had won two in a row before last Sunday's defeat and the feeling is that those victories over Southampton and Newcastle may prove enough to make them safe, sitting six points clear of 18th-placed Fulham having played two games less. However, Potter will be well aware that his side's home form must improve next term if they are to avoid another survival scrap.
Opposite number Carlo Ancelotti has admitted the same applies to his Everton team, the Blues seemingly doing everything they can to derail their hopes of qualifying for Europe through their lacklustre results at Goodison Park.
Last Monday's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace was the latest example of Ancelotti's men controlling a game after going ahead through James Rodriguez, only to spurn a string of opportunities and allow the Eagles to grab an 86th-minute equaliser.
With others experiencing similar issues, the Italian has insisted that the battle for the European spots "will be decided in the last minute of the last game".
A first win at the Amex since Brighton's ascension to the Premier League in 2017 would be timely and Everton's away form this term has been stunning. To date, the Toffees have recorded a magnificent nine wins from 14 outings to equal their best tally in the Premier League era.
On a similar theme, Dominic Calvert-Lewin is just one shy of Romelu Lukaku's club record of nine away goals in a single Premier League season and netted in this fixture last term, a 3-2 defeat for the visitors.
Repeating that feat could go a long way to helping Everton claim a first away win at Brighton since 1982-83. The Merseysiders finished seventh that season and a repeat of that position could prove good enough for a European place this time around.
Ancelotti's side won October's reverse fixture 4-2, Rodriguez grabbing a brace. With both the Colombian and Calvert-Lewin in form, a tenth away win of the season may well beckon for the Toffees.
Key stat
Everton have won nine times away from home this season.
