Manchester United beat top-four rivals Aston Villa 3-1 to move three points clear in third last Sunday and they will expect to further improve their Premier League position when making the long trip to Bournemouth tonight.

However, the Cherries are proving a tough team to beat, having gone ten Premier League games without a defeat, and there is every chance they can stun the in-form Red Devils at the Vitality.

Bournemouth vs Manchester United preview

Sinners star Michael B Jordan was named Best Actor at the 2026 Oscars on Sunday night and there is a good chance the Bournemouth part-owner will be celebrating again when Manchester United visit the Vitality Stadium tonight.

Jordan won his Oscar for portraying vampire twins Smoke and Stack in the film and, aptly, Andoni Iraola's Cherries are exactly the kind of team who can burst United's bubble and drain any energy gained from their win over Aston Villa.

The Red Devils were impressive against the Villans and their victory means they are now three points clear of Unai Emery's side in the race for third.

Seven wins in nine under Michael Carrick will have punters rushing to back United at odds-against. However, the best performances of the Carrick era have come against expansive sides such as Manchester City and Arsenal, and expert tactician Iraola can use that to his advantage.

United stumbled to narrow victories against Fulham, Everton and ten-man Crystal Palace while they were lucky to avoid defeat at West Ham. Bournemouth can follow the blueprint of the Hammers and stun the Red Devils.

Stifling PFA Player of the Year contender Bruno Fernandes will be key to their chances but Iraola is a shrewd strategist and it is likely he will have a plan up his sleeve to do just that.

Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Amad Diallo are also in good form but a Bournemouth defence which has kept three clean sheets in four games is sturdy enough to keep things tight and a victory is definitely not beyond them.

Goals have dried up a touch at the other end. However, Rayan will be boosted by a first Brazil call-up, Evanilson is a constant threat and Eli Junior Kroupi's eye for the spectacular means that is likely to be a short-lived trend for the Cherries.

Bournemouth were unlucky not to come away with three points in December's thrilling 4-4 draw at Old Trafford and they can make amends on home soil, where they have lost only twice in the Premier League this term.

Tavernier to play a starring role

After scoring one goal and setting up another in the reverse fixture, Marcus Tavernier must be relishing a chance to get at United's defence again.

Carrick has improved many aspects of the Red Devils' play but their defence still remains a worry as they have managed only two clean sheets in their last eight outings.

Tavernier has two goals and two assists in his last seven appearances and looks a big price to add to either of those tallies tonight.

Super sub Sesko may make another big impact

It is rare that a £70 million striker finds themself in a super-sub role but the issue for Benjamin Sesko is that he keeps making a major impact from the bench.

The Slovenian has scored four times in his last five appearances off the bench, so a smart play could be to back Sesko to score the final goal at the Vitality, where his strike may very well be a consolation.

Evanilson to have two or more shots

Bournemouth's Brazilian striker has fired off at least two shots in ten of his last 15 appearances and amassed six in Saturday's draw with Burnley.

Amad Diallo to have two or more shots

The Ivorian was electric against Aston Villa, racking up three shots, and his pace should help him get the space to regularly let fly again.

Luke Shaw to be booked

The England left-back faces a tough task against the powerful Rayan and a sixth yellow card of the season may be heading his way.
