Back Man City to punish slow-starting visitors
Liverpool have steadied the ship with home victories to nil against Aston Villa and Real Madrid but their defence remains a concern going into Sunday's clash with Manchester City.
Letting in early goals is a serious problem for the Reds, who conceded in the ninth, 14th and fifth minutes of recent league defeats at Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Brentford.
Bryan Mbeumo gave Manchester United a second-minute lead in last month's 2-1 win at Anfield and Liverpool fell behind in the 16th and 26th minutes on Champions League trips to Galatasaray and Eintracht Frankfurt.
City should be confident of striking before half-time against their slow-starting opponents. The hosts have scored a first-half goal in seven of their first ten league games, including September's away fixture at Arsenal, and they led 2-1, 2-0 and 2-0 at the break in their last three Champions League matches.
Confident Foden could be City's shooting star
It has been a good week for Phil Foden, who scored twice in Manchester City's 4-1 win over Borussia Dortmund before earning a recall to Thomas Tuchel's England squad.
Foden's confidence is on the rise after a tough 2024-25 campaign and he should be backed to have at least two shots against Liverpool.
The 25-year-old scored with one of his two attempts in September's 3-0 home win over Manchester United and has had nine shots in his last four league appearances.
Foden averages 2.7 efforts per 90 minutes in this term's Champions League and Liverpool's second-choice goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili faced 17 shots, eight of them on target, in last month's 3-2 defeat at Brentford.
Liverpool defender Bradley may add to card collection
Conor Bradley was outstanding for Liverpool against Real on Tuesday and, with fellow right-back Jeremie Frimpong injured, he can expect another busy shift against City.
Bradley's start to the season was hampered by a hamstring injury, which may be a factor in his poor disciplinary record.
He has played only 209 minutes of Premier League football away from home but still managed to pick up yellow cards at Newcastle, Burnley and Chelsea.
Bradley was also cautioned in his first two Champions League outings against Atletico Madrid and Galatasaray so dazzling dribbler Jeremy Doku may well cause him problems down City's left flank.
