Arsenal vs Newcastle predictions
It might not be quite as bad as West Germany versus Austria in 1982 but a draw would do just fine for Arsenal and Newcastle and they could share the spoils at the Emirates.
This might not be a carve-up like when the Germans beat their neighbours 1-0 for a mutually-beneficial outcome, but a draw virtually seals Arsenal a place in next season's Champions League and would inch Newcastle closer to booking a top-five spot, so there might not be too much adventure if the game is level heading into the latter stages.
There have been positives for Arsenal to take from the 2024-25 season which is set to feature a lofty top-flight finish alongside runs to the final four of the EFL Cup and the Champions League.
However, Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has admitted to a slippage of standards in the league with his team certain to fall well short of last season's 89-point tally.
Arsenal were in the title hunt at the 25-game mark with just seven points separating them from leaders Liverpool, but they surprisingly lost 1-0 at home to West Ham and have never recovered.
More recently the Londoners have focused their energies on the Champions League and they competed at a high level across both legs of their quarter-final against Real Madrid and for large parts of the semi-final matches against Paris St-Germain.
However, Arsenal were unable to plot a path to the final and have been left to deal with an anti-climactic end to the campaign.
The busy fixture list has taken a toll on Arteta's outfit, who has been busy shuffling his pack which has played a part in the failed title challenge.
Arsenal's options are further limited by the absence of Mikel Merino, who was sent off in last Sunday's 2-2 draw at Liverpool, and the squad is looking stretched but their mentality remained strong on Merseyside and that should help them get over the line in the battle for second spot.
Two points separate the Gunners from third-placed Newcastle, who have kicked on since their emotional triumph over Liverpool in the EFL Cup final.
Eddie Howe's side have won seven of their last nine league matches, including last week's 2-0 triumph over Chelsea which felt like a huge moment in the scramble for Champions League qualification, but they are not quite over the line and head to Arsenal with full focus following wins for European rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa on Friday.
Newcastle have had the edge over Arsenal this season, beating them 1-0 in the reverse Premier League fixture and 2-0 in each leg of the EFL Cup semi-final.
However, they have lost each of their four away league matches against fellow top-six clubs and would be content to share the spoils ahead of hosting Everton on the final day.

Under 2.5 goals
Nine of the last ten meetings have generated less than three goals and the low-scoring trend looks set to continue.
Myles Lewis-Skelly to be fouled two or more times
Lewis-Skelly dishes out and receives plenty of stick and could be on the wrong end of at least a couple of illegal challenges.
Bruno Guimaraes to be carded
The Brazilian is always in the thick of the action and appears overpriced to enter referee Simon Hooper's notebook.
