Premier League betting update after Manchester City beat Burnley
Awful Arsenal thrashed at Leicester
Manchester City are just two steps away from completing a successful defence of the Premier League title after Sergio Aguero's 63rd-minute goal handed them a deserved 1-0 victory over Burnley at Turf Moor.
City's title odds have shrunk to 2-9 – the shortest they have been all season – while Liverpool have eased to 7-2.
It was far from a vintage performance from City but they dominated for long periods and made the breakthrough when Aguero's effort sneaked over the line just before before James Tarkowski was able to fashion a clearance.
Goalline technology showed it was an agonisingly close call but it was enough to restore City to the top of the table – one point above Liverpool with 36 games played.
However, it remains extremely tight and City, who are on a 12-match Premier League winning sequence, must remain focused if they are to finish the job with victories at home to Leicester next Monday and away to Brighton the following Sunday.
Liverpool must try to keep up the pressure but next their clash at Newcastle on Saturday – which falls in between the Champions League fixtures against Barcelona – looks a potential banana skin.
The Reds finish off at home to seventh-placed Wolves.
Aguero's goal was his 20th in the Premier League this term and puts him one behind Mohamed Salah in the race to be top scorer.
Salah is 5-4 to top the scoring charts for a second successive season, while Aguero is a 5-2 chance and Sadio Mane – also on 20 goals – is 4-1.
Arsenal's hopes of a top-four finish were dealt a massive blow by a 3-0 loss to Leicester at the King Power Stadium.
It was the Gunners' third successive league defeat and means their hopes for Champions League qualification are more likely to rest on the Europa League, starting with Thursday's semi-final, first leg at home to Valencia.
A Youri Tielemans header and two goals from Jamie Vardy sealed the victory for Leicester against an Arsenal side reduced to ten men by the 36th minute dismissal of defender Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
Chelsea stayed in fourth place after drawing 1-1 with Manchester United at Old Trafford.
United had looked set to land a major blow in the race for Champions League qualification when Juan Mata slid them into a 11th-minute lead but Marcos Alonso levelled just before the break, capitalising on another goalkeeping error from David De Gea.
Chelsea are two points above Arsenal and three above United with two games to play.
They are at home to Watford next Sunday and away to Leicester on the final day.
United, who remain sixth, finish off with a trip to Huddersfield and home game with Cardiff.
