New York City set to host an MLS thriller
MLS
Sky Sports Mix, 6pm Sunday
New York City and DC United both failed to find the net in the opening weekend of the MLS but punters should expect a hatful of goals when the pair clash at the Yankee Stadium.
City squandered a number of clearcut chances in their 1-0 defeat at Orlando, while it was no shame DC struggled to break down a Sporting Kansas side who conceded just once in their final three games last season.
Patrick Vieira’s troops will be disappointed they left Florida empty-handed. The Bronx Blues dominated the stats – winning the shot count 15-4 and enjoying 60 per cent of the possession – but they lacked a killer punch and a swift return to action may be for the best.
The overall performance at Orlando was respectable and with David Villa, who notched 23 goals last term, leading the line it’s unlikely the drought will continue.
DC carried a potent attacking threat last term and their last 11 league matches on the road have seen both teams find the net. Luciano Acosta’s injury is a blow but they have enough class in their ranks to trouble City’s often fragile backline.
City have lost just one of their last nine home league matches but they have shipped in seven of those and backing both teams to score makes plenty of appeal.
Recommendation
Both teams to score
