National League Saturday preview

Chesterfield and Ebbsfleet meet in a high-stakes clash with both sides looking to avoid relegation, and that could lead to an entertaining game at the Proact Stadium.

The hosts earned a crucial result when beating Wrexham 3-2 last time out and that meant both teams have scored in 14 of Chesterfield’s 17 home matches.

Ebbsfleet have been appalling in defence at times, conceding the most goals in the National League. They earned a vital 1-0 win over bottom side Chorley last week but that was just their fourth clean sheet this season and this game could easily turn into a high-scoring affair.

Torquay have been woeful since November and their bad form could continue when they play Halifax.

The Gulls have lost nine of their last 13 games and could soon be looking over their shoulders given they are only five points clear of the relegation zone.

Halifax have rebounded from a sticky patch in emphatic fashion and have won their last four to push them up to third. With an unlikely promotion push back on the cards they look a big price to claim victory.

Dover earned their biggest victory of the season the last time they played at home, beating top side Barrow 2-1, and could see off another northern side facing a long trip when they play Fylde.

Andy Hessenthaler’s Whites have been at their best on the road this season but they have won three of their last four at the Crabble.

Fylde are 23rd having failed to win any of their last ten games, and having to travel 300 miles to the south coast could work against them.
