Solihull were the surprise of last season when they finished second in the National League, and they could get the new campaign off to a flyer when they visit Harrogate.

The loss of Adi Yussuf to Blackpool was a blow to the Moors but they have replaced him with Paul McCallum, last season’s joint-top scorer when with Eastleigh. His aerial presence should suit Solihull’s style of play.

Harrogate also exceeded expectations in making the playoffs but they went off the boil at the wrong time and won just two of their final nine matches. The addition of Jon Stead and Sam Jones should bolster their already fierce firepower, but they may struggle to break through Solihull’s rigid defence.

Chesterfield are prime candidates for promotion after a strong finish to last season with the appointment of John Sheridan, and can prove their mettle by beating Dover.

The Spireites lost just five matches after Sheridan’s appointment and striker Scott Boden notched ten goals in 15 games. They certainly looked a side heading in the right direction, and after last season’s disappointing start they could make amends against a Dover side who could be in contention for a playoff place after a busy summer.

The Big Kick-Off

Woking return to the National League after winning the National League South playoffs, but they could be in for a tough visit to Dagenham.

The Daggers finished last season well following a takeover from a group involving Tim Howard, and they are likely to have too much for Woking, who may need a bit of time to settle back in.
