MLS predictions

Philadelphia Union vs Charlotte predictions

Sunday, 12.30am

Key Stat: Philadelphia Union are on an impressive 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions

Philadelphia Union are favourites to claim another important home win when they host eighth-placed Charlotte in the Eastern Conference.

They are four points clear at the top of the conference standings and can secure all three points against a Charlotte outfit who beat struggling Toronto last time, although that was only the visitors’ second win in their last six outings.

The Union have lost only three times in the league all season, winning ten of their 17 games, and have only suffered defeat at the hands of Charlotte in the last five meetings between the clubs.

Portland Timbers vs San Jose Earthquakes predictions

Saturday, 3.30am

Key Stat: The Timbers are unbeaten in eight home games in all competitions

Portland are fourth in the Western Conference and should be able to follow up their late win over St Louis on Sunday with another narrow success when they host San Jose Earthquakes, who are in eighth place.

The Timbers had a late David Ayala goal to thank for a 2-1 victory over St Louis at the weekend and their unbeaten home run should continue against an Earthquakes side who have lost only one of their last eight games.

San Jose have racked up the highest number of goal attempts in the league this season (266) and have scored in seven of their last eight away league matches, so some bettors may prefer to boost the return by backing them to score in defeat.

New England Revolution vs FC Cincinnati predictions

Sunday, 12.30am

Key Stat: FC Cincinnati have gone four games without a win

FC Cincinnati are second in the Eastern Conference but Pat Noonan’s side have not won any of their last four games.

They will be keen to get back to winning ways when they go to New England Revolution but this is no straightforward task against opponents who have only lost one of their last four MLS home games, a run which includes eye-catching successes over New York City and NY Red Bulls.

This should be a closely-contested clash and a draw appeals.

Houston Dynamo vs CF Montreal predictions

Sunday, 1.30am

Key Stat: Montreal have lost four of their last six games

Houston Dynamo won 3-0 at New York City at the end of May but failed to follow that up against Sporting KC, losing 3-1 at home.

However, their next opponents, CF Montreal, should not offer much resistance. Montreal are bottom of the Eastern Conference and have lost four of their last six games, drawing the other two, so the visitors are in a fairly sorry state as they prepare to head to the Shell Energy Stadium.

Real Salt Lake vs DC United predictions

Sunday, 2.30am

Key Stat: Real Salt Lake have drawn three of their last six matches

Two teams with similar league records this term meet at America First Field on Sunday and there may be little to separate them after 90 minutes.

Both teams have managed just four wins in the MLS so far and Real Salt Lake have drawn half of their last six matches.

DC’s hopes of qualifying for at least a wild-card place took a big hit when they were hammered 7-1 at home by Chicago Fire last Sunday, but they can respond by securing what could eventually be a vital point.
