Maribor v Rosenborg: Champions League qualifier betting preview & free tip

Rosenborg endured a dismal Europa League group stage campaign last season but they boast a solid record in qualifiers and look a value bet away to Maribor.

The Norwegians found themselves in the group of death in Europe's subsidiary competition in 2018-19, taking one point in a section featuring Salzburg, Leipzig and Celtic.

But they have won each of their last six Europa League qualifying matches, claiming the scalp of Ajax in 2017 and breezing past Cork City and Shkendija last year.

The Norwegian league is well underway by the time these qualifiers crop up, which could go some way to explaining their good record, and they can build on it against a partly undercooked Maribor side in the third qualifying round.

The Slovenians have played only four league encounters, drawing three and losing one, compared to Rosenborg's 16 in a division ranked eight places lower in Uefa's league coefficient rankings.

Maribor can draw confidence from having sunk a Scandinavian side in AIK in the second qualifying round but they did so by virtue of away goals after extra time, having lost the away leg 2-1 in 90 minutes.

Rosenborg have won only seven league assignments this term but have been in flying form on the continental stage, thumping Linfield 6-0 on aggregate before knocking out Bate Borisov, who made the knockout stage of last year's Europa League.

Rosenborg look much the same as the team who won Norway's top flight and qualified for the Europa League last term and can claim a valuable away victory.
