Liverpool fell short of breaking the Premier League record for consecutive wins as the runaway leaders were beaten 3-0 by 15-2 shots Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday night.

The Reds had been 4-9 favourites for a 19th successive victory but had no excuses as the Hornets struck twice early in the second half through Ismaila Sarr, who had been 13-1 to open the scoring. Troy Deeney added a third after 72 minutes to end any hope of a comeback. A 3-0 Watford win had been a 125-1 chance.

Jurgen Klopp's side are hardly in crisis as they remain 22 points ahead of Manchester City having played one game more than the EFL Cup finalists and they are still 1-1,000 to get over the line.

They now share the record with City, who won 18 in a row in 2017.

West Ham boosted their survival prospects earlier in the day with a 3-1 home win over Southampton. The Hammers were eased to 11-4 for relegation before Watford's success, while Bournemouth secured a valuable point with a 2-2 draw against Chelsea.

Both those sides are now within one point of Brighton, who lost 1-0 at home to Crystal Palace.
