Preview

It's the final round of matches before the mid-season break, with Shamrock Rovers having been replaced as leaders by Sligo.

The champions have dropped eight points in their last three games, although it is still hard to see anyone else winning the title. They visit Longford on Saturday evening while Sligo have a tougher assignment at Finn Harps on Friday night.

Derry City look the best value on Friday. They are outsiders in Drogheda and, while United have had a terrific season, Derry should probably be favourites. On the road under Ruaidhri Higgins they have played four, won three, and drawn at Shamrock Rovers. They are especially dangerous at set-pieces.

St Patrick's face a Dundalk side who were shambolic at Bohemians on Monday, conceding five. Presumably they will bounce back from that and Saints are probably short enough given the talent of the Dundalk side.

In Division 1, Galway look an appealing bet getting a half-goal start on the handicap against Shelbourne. The Tribesmen will have gleaned great confidence from coming back with ten men to get a point in Cork, while they drew 0-0 with Shels earlier in the season and it is not as though home advantage counts for much.
