League of Ireland preview

The odds-on favourites should all get the job done in the second round of League of Ireland matches.

Derry City are at home to Finn Harps after making a bright start to the campaign by almost holding Dundalk to a 0-0 draw last week. Some of their new players impressed and they should have a lot of the ball in this game.

Harps won an ugly match against Sligo but they will have to play a bit of football to have any chance in front of a bumper crowd at Brandywell.

Shamrock Rovers look close to certainties at home to Cork City, who have an almost entirely new team this season, many of them youngsters on loan from England. They are likely to improve but their midfield will surely struggle in Tallaght, with Jack Byrne pulling the strings, and Rovers should coast to victory.

Shelbourne created little in Cork and Dundalk ought to be a class apart in Tolka Park. Dundalk were worth their win over Derry, while Shels could struggle to create chances.

Bohemians, with keeper James Talbot injured, hardly deserve to be favourites in Waterford. The Blues, despite cobbling together a squad in the week of the game, looked good in beating St Patrick's last week and have some decent players.

In Division 1, Galway United and Drogheda United look the best bets for outright success, with both fancied to go close this season.
