Ayr United's hopes of a remarkable 66-1 title success depend almost entirely on whether they can keep star striker Lawrence Shankland next month.

Ian McCall's side were gifted promotion last year by a Raith Rovers collapse, but they have been an absolute revelation this season and 28-goal scoring sensation Shankland has been a huge part of it.

United were last in Scottish football's top flight in season 1977-78, with Ally MacLeod winning them promotion previously.
