WHEN Rafa Benitez agreed to stay on as Newcastle manager it was obvious the Magpies were deadly serious about their quest to secure an immediate promotion, and the Sky Bet Championship favourites can make the perfect start to their campaign by winning at Fulham tonight.

Benitez persuaded most key players to stay and has revamped the squad with some bold transfer moves including the captures of Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle, Mohamed Diame from Premier League clubs Bournemouth, Crystal Palace and Hull.

That Newcastle can still attract top-flight players says everything about their ambition to ensure a short stay in the Championship – something they achieved when dropping down to this level in 2009.
