Match preview

Israel would doubtless love to avenge their Euro 2020 heartache by derailing Scotland's Nations League promotion bid but they are not easy to fancy after two recent failed attempts to beat Steve Clarke's men.

This is the third competitive showdown between these countries in the last two months and there has been absolutely nothing to separate them so far.

September's reverse Group B2 fixture at Hampden finished 1-1 and was largely awful. On the same ground a month later they met again in the European Championship playoffs and the match was even worse. The 0-0 scoreline flattered both teams but Scotland won't care a bit after winning on penalties.

For the hat-trick it's all back to Netanya where Willi Ruttensteiner's men drew 1-1 with Slovakia in September.

Everything here is pointing to the draw even though it's the one result that could actually spell trouble for the pair of them. The Scots may well need to win to go up while the Israelis may well need to win to stay up but making a case to back either side is tricky.

Israel are in desperate form, having won just two of their last 13, and they are missing Hoffenheim's ace frontman Munas Dubbur.

Scotland, in contrast, can recall their new attacking hero Lyndon Dykes, who missed Sunday's luckless 1-0 defeat in Slovakia, a result which snapped the Scots' nine-game unbeaten run.

Clarke actually kept his powder dry in Trnava giving key players such as Scott McTominay and Callum McGregor a breather so Scotland should accordingly be stronger and they remain full of self-belief.

Key stat

Scotland's last five matches have produced a total of five goals.
