Tuesday's Nations League preview

Some Spanish football commentators reckoned a team culled from the players left out of Luis Enrique's current squad would have beaten those he did pick, and they were feeling smug when La Roja crashed 2-1 at home to Switzerland on Saturday.

It wasn't just a poor defeat, it was also a poor performance in Zaragoza, one that cannot inspire much confidence going into one of the biggest Iberian derbies for years.

Spain head to Braga having ceded Portugal top spot of Nations League A2, Cristiano Ronaldo and co taking full advantage of Spanish sorrow by romping to a 4-0 success in the Czech Republic.

Suddenly, Enrique's decision to omit fit-again Sergio Ramos and Thiago Alcantara and in-form Iago Aspas – centre-back Aymeric Laporte is also out, injured – is being seriously scrutinised in the wake of their dire effort against the Swiss.

Portugal look more than capable of heaping the misery on their neighbours.

With Atletico Madrid striker Joao Felix declared fit to offer more options, there is a really classy look to the Portugal squad which means Fernando Santos can make a tweak or two – Diogo Jota and Joao Palhinha can expect starts – without them appearing any weaker.

It's a battle of the Premier League's hotshots in Oslo where Erling Haaland leads Norway into battle against Serbia with Aleksandr Mitrovic up front.

Norway need just to avoid defeat to nail down promotion from B4 into the top tier, although the Serbs can get the win they need.

Haaland and Mitrovic are the two leading scorers in Nations League B after the Fulham ace moved to five at the weekend by bagging a hat-trick in a 4-1 drubbing of Sweden.

Good enough to win in Portugal, Hungary and Sweden over the past 12 months, they'll fancy their chances if they can shackle Haaland.

One big-priced outsider to consider has to be Cyprus in Kosovo in Nations League C2.

Cypriot club football is improving and the national team have recovered from a shocking start to this campaign. They didn't find the net in their first three matches but have taken four points from their last two games, culminating in a 1-0 win over Greece.

Kosovo failed to win a home game in World Cup qualifying and will be smarting after going down in Northern Ireland on Saturday.
