Northern Ireland vs Iceland predictions

There wasn't much to like about Northern Ireland's trip to Denmark on Saturday but Michael O'Neill's team can close the campaign with a decent result when they host Iceland at Windsor Park.

It is tough to describe their visit to Copenhagen as anything but fruitless as not only did they fail to muster a single shot on target - their goal came from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg turning the ball into his own net - but they lost the corner count 12-0 as well.

O'Neill will be able to fall back on a good home record for Iceland's visit as a 1-1 draw with Switzerland, which also falls into the encouraging result bracket, has been the only time in their last six Belfast fixtures when they have failed to win.

So there looks to be a good chance they will come out of their shell a bit more and that could be bad news for their visitors, who are struggling to keep clean sheets.

Iceland have conceded at last twice in six of their last eight matches and while a 3-1 friendly win over Scotland will be seen as encouraging, they had lost four of their previous five games on the road since claiming a surprise 1-0 win over England at Wembley a year ago.

Maybe too much could be read into their success on Friday and it makes more sense to support the home side to maintain their run of good Windsor Park results. A win should be within their scope following successes over Bulgaria, Belarus and Luxembourg on their own patch this season.
